How to run monthly sales commission payouts in under an hour

A practical checklist for sales ops: import deals, apply rules, review exceptions, approve, and publish to reps.

1. Lock the deal source

Export closed-won (and refunded) deals from your CRM or billing system. Include amount, owner, close date, product, and a stable external ID.

2. Apply rules, don't re-type rates

Map each deal to an active commission rule. Tiered rates and product filters should be configuration — not a monthly rewrite.

3. Review exceptions, then approve

Scan clawbacks, unusually large deals, and split totals. Approve the period, export for payroll, and share portal links with reps.
